چکیده

Lifetime performance and longevity are very important parameters of profitability in sow breeding. Opportunity to improve lifetime may be found the rearing period preparation gilts for their future reproductive role. With aim prevent premature culling, it is possible influence body condition, limb mammary gland development, proper function tract through nutrition, technology, strategies. Nutrition plays a role, as can affect all basic requirements achieving satisfactory gilt performance. Selecting most effective strategy difficult because there many factors affecting longevity. The this literature review provide up-to-date information on how influenced choice strategies area nutrition.

Nonruminant Nutrition: Sow & Gilt Nutrition

A study was conducted to investigate how the allocation of energy to growth and maintenance differs between rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon and how the diet affects energy allocation. Rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon were handfed to satiation four isoenergetic diets (DE = 20 MJ/kg) with different digestible protein/digestible energy ratios (DP/DE), i.e., 24, 22, 20, and 18 g/MJ, achieved thr...

Genetic associations for gilt growth, compositional, and structural soundness traits with sow longevity and lifetime reproductive performance.

The objective of this study was to estimate genetic associations for gilt growth, compositional, and structural soundness with sow longevity and lifetime reproduction. Performance and pedigree information from 1,447 commercial females from 2 genetic lines were included in the data analyzed. Growth was expressed as days to 113.5 kg BW (DAYS) and compositional traits included loin muscle area (LM...

30 pigs / sow / year – Impacts on the Sow

Since the early 1990s, the application of genetic selection for litter size has led to an increase of up to 3.5 pigs per litter at dam line nucleus level, with the largest improvements shown in the French and Danish breeding programs. This has translated into the potential for a total litter size born of 15 or more piglets, providing the possibility for commercial producers to wean more than 30...

Genetics of crossbred sow longevity.

The aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for longevity from Swedish crossbred sows to investigate the possibilities of selecting for this trait. Data were collected from 16 commercial piglet-producing herds, on crossbred (Landrace × Yorkshire) sows farrowing in the period 1 January 2001 to 31 December 2004. The data set with records on 10 373 sows was split into two sets accordi...

Bioeconomic evaluation of sow longevity and profitability.

Sow production indicators, including litter size, litter weight, and the length of time that sows remained in the herd (sow longevity), were used to characterize sow performance and profitability. Sow longevity and production records from 148,568 sows in 32 commercial herds from Central Illinois from January 1995 to May 2001 were analyzed using survival and repeatability models, respectively. T...
